“Hey. I don’t bite. You and me. We’re in a club now!”
I’m sorry but I had to get this off my chest or I was gonna go crazy. All this hype about Merida’s redesign is getting ridiculous and i’m gonna tell you why I happen to think so. Making Merida 2D and adding some sparkles doesn’t magically negate her strong, brave, admirable traits displayed in the film. She doesn’t all of the sudden lose substance just because she got a little makeover. Everyone needs to stop pretending that just because Merida has more independent, tough character traits, that she is somehow a superior role model to children. There is nothing wrong with looking up to Cinderella or Jasmine or Snow White. Wanna know why? Because that is your decision. You can admire anyone you want. You are allowed to have opinions. If you wanna be a pretty face that hangs around for romance then that’s okay. If you wanna be an independent, self assured, go-getter then guess what, that’s okay too! If you wanna play with bows and arrows, go for it! If you wanna sit down and have a tea party, then you go have a god damn tea party! You can dress however you want. You can wear your hair how ever you want. You can think whatever you want. You can like whatever you want. Wanna know why? Because those opinions and interests don’t change the fact that you are an individual. Whether you look up to Merida or Sleeping Beauty or Mulan or Pocahontas or Snow White, it does not matter! You can even like all of them! I like that Cinderella makes the best out of a shitty situation. I like that Mulan is willing to go through a ton of shit because she loves her family. I like that Snow White is literally the kindest person in the world. I love that Jasmine said fuck you i’ll marry who I want. I like that Merida said fuck you I don’t want to get married. And i’ll let you in on a little secret here, princess appearance doesn’t change any of those things. If you like the original Merida better, that’s okay! But stop acting as if the redesign makes her a totally different character. Looks do not determine a persons self worth. Clothes do not change who you are as a person. Liking something doesn’t make you any less of a person.
OMG YES.
The 2D desing sucks imho but it doesn’t remove Merida any strenght ??
Like you can be girly and strong
You can be tomboy and strong
Your looks don’t define your strength
Your looks don’t define your strength
- Your looks don’t define your strength
God, we all know that when you show a sign of femininity, it means that you can’t be a strong, independent woman.
oh wait.
no. that’s not a thing.
thumbs up to this post.
A real mother is the most wonderful person in the world. She’s someone who loves and cares for you and tells you stories. She’s the angel voice that bids you good night, kisses your cheek, whispers, “Sleep tight.”
